1
Loudon Wainwright III "The Man Who Rode The Mule Around The World" We start out with a humorous folk song full of wit and witticisms. Something easy and cute to listen to. Folk
2
A.A. Bondy "There's A Reason" A little late to the game on Mr. Bondy, this is my favorite track from his album "American Hearts." "There was a man with cinder for eyes. There was a girl with a dress made of flies." I just love sad music that searches for answers. Folk
3
The Briggs "Higher Ground" A punk band going a little softer and getting out a stronger message. "Reaching up we won't back down." Punk
4
CKY "Close Yet Far" I ignored this band for some time simply because of their affiliation with that annoying midget Bam Margera. The truth is, they are actually a good band with a unique smokey dark sound. I'm looking forward to new music from their upcoming album. Rock
5
Elbow "One Day Like This" This British pub band continues to impress me with their new album "The Seldom Seen Kid." A good song to start your day with to keep things positive. Rock
6
Goes Cube "The Only Daughter" We stop moaning at this point and start yelling. A nice straight up rock n' roll song for the masses. And by masses I mean people who don't listen to the radio and seek interesting fringe music. Rock
7
Monotonix "Summers & Autumns" If you have not seen these crazy cats from Israel perform you are missing out. The highest of high energy shows and the riff in this song is simply addictive. Rock
8
Neko Case "Pharaohs" Member of the New Pornographers strikes out on her own again with a painfully echoing song that showcases her beautiful voice. "You said I was your blue blue baby, and you were right." Rock
9
Rakim "Holy Are You" The "Rappers Rapper" drops science on the whole god thing proving he's the real messiah. Hip/Hop
10
The Rural Alberta Advantage "Don't Haunt This Place" Fans of Neutral Milk Hotel will definitely get off on this similar band from the same record label. Good stuff and stick around for the harmonies starting on the 2nd verse. Pop
11
The Thermals "Now We Can See" This trio is really starting to catch on with some ingenious hooks in this sing-a-long anthem. Rock
12
Rancid "Last One To Die" The punk kings are back with a solid, solid album "Let The Dominoes Fall." If you like punk listen to one of the greatest still around today. Punk
13
Pearl Jam "Amongst The Waves" I was kinda tired of hearing how "Pearl Jam is back" when they have put out nothing but great albums their entire career (save for maybe "No Code" and "Vitology" which made people stop paying attention). This is my favorite track from the new album "Backspacer." If you haven't listened to their last self-titled album, "Riot Act", "Lost Dogs," and "Binaural," do yourself a favor and go buy them! Rock
14
Clutch "Minotuar" I'll admit it, the new album "Strange Cousins From The West" isn't their best album to date, but this song is classic odd Clutch in every way. Rock
15
The Lemonheads "Beautiful" Evan Dando decided his Lemonheads needed a cover album and no one was more surprised than I when their rendition of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" played. Wow did they make this song sound great and the lyrics actually seem to take on the meaning that was intended without blonde's fine ass taking all the attention. Rock
16
Skindrid "Rat Race" The hard reggae rockin' boys are back with a new album, but I chose a high octane track from a previous release while I await the new album from Bieler Bro's records. Metal
17
Death Stars "Death Dies Hard" And yet another Bieler Bro's band with a bit (or a lot) of that dark goth sound. Really fun stuff for those who like Rammstein but hate bands like Satyricon. Rock
19
Marilyn Manson "Arma-Fucking-Geddon" Keeping in that metal/goth vein (ha, get it?) we have the only good track from Manson's new album. Lucky for him its a damn good one. Metal
20
The Eels "Fresh Blood" Mark Everett is back again with his always fascinating lyrics and happy-go-lucky attitude. This bewitching joint is from the new album "Hombre Lobo." Let your inner wolf out and rock. Rock
21
Levon Helm "Stuff You Gotta Watch" The old man returns, this time plugged in and covering an old Muddy Waters tune with warnings about that whore girlfriend of yours. From his new album "Electric Dirt" which for some reason sounds gross to me. Countryish
22
The Mountain Goats "Psalms 40:2" John Darnielle, one of the best lyricists of our day, returns with an entire album named for bible verses. Interesting enough but the guy always has engaging albums and songs. Rock
23
Brandon Benson "You Make A Fool Out Of Me" Do you like The White Stripes? Do you like the Raconteurs? Well here's a solo effort from the guy in the Raconteurs who sounds just like The White Stripes. "There's only so much I can take, when you point out my every mistake." One of my favorite tracks of the year so far! Rock
24 Fun. "All The Pretty Girls" A Syrupy sweet Pop song from the NYC to your local disco. Just fun goodness about wanting girls. "I wish all the pretty girls were shaking me down." Me too. Pop
25 Five Finger Death Punch "Dying Breed" Heavy metal in full effect as these guys on this sophomore effort. "All I wanted was your honesty, something more than this, something more than me." Metal
26 Comes With The Fall "White Hot" Want to impress all your friends? Here's the new singer from Alice In Chains with his old band and their best song. The dudes vocals are just ridiculous and nobody seems to know much about Mr. William DuVall. Rock
27 Alice In Chains "Last Of My Kind" Speaking of the Seattle pioneers, this is the most rocking track from the amazing and bad ass new album, "Black Gives Way To Blue." Did i mention the album is bad ass? Rock
28 3 Doors Down "Let Me Be Myself" Say what you will about this band, they put out some good music and anyone that lends their beat to a Caveman commercial for Geico, is a friend of mine. It really is a good song with lyrics that appeal to me, and probably you. Just admit you like em already. Rock
29 Mastodon "Oblivion" I have been told by metal fans forever how awesome this band is and I finally gave their new album a listen. Turns out they are correct. Great sludge metal and their videos are like mini-movies. Metal
30 Silversun Pickups "The Royal We" This band just gets better with every song I hear from them. "You used to do a little, but a little won't fly. Right before you hit your prime, that's when we fell in love, but not the 1st time." The album is "Swoon." Now go buy it. Rock
