21 Tracks For Summer From Your Friends At ImpOp Music

Bouncing Souls "I Think That The World" Still in the running for album of the year (yes I know it came out last year) the now 20 years strong punk outfit doesn't have a single bad track. Full of positivity and its you and me music. Punk

Eels "Little Bird" The newest album from Mark Everett called "End Times" is a good album, but be prepared to exit the music feeling depressed as shit. Look close though and you will find a little cheer in this one. Folk

Mike Doughty "(I Want To) Burn You (Down)" Besides an incredible use of parentheses throughout album, the former Soul Coughing frontman returned with another incredible opus that didn't garner as much attention as it deserved. You can really pick any track since they are all amazing but I chose this one on this day. Folk

Mighty Mighty Bosstones "Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah" The 'tones are back with the best album they have made since the ultra-popular "Let's Face It" and in fact it's better. If you can stand still and not sing during this song, something is wrong with you. Enjoy and twist. Ska

Sevendust "Unraveling" The metal brothers return with "Cold Day Memory" which is a nod back to the more melodic "Seasons" style. Granted this is the radio release but I really feel the lyrics hold this together with the classic band's style. "I want the world to see you sold a broken dream." Metal

She & Him "Thieves" I loves me some Zooey Deschannel (see the Top 10 list to the side) and her amazing voice and style reminiscent of shimmering 60's pop, but the album ain't blowing me away like "Volume 1." Still, this song about (what else) love spouts amazing lines like "two broken hearts don't beat any less," "love like ours, is terrible news," and is definitely worth the download. Pop

Bluejuice "Vitriol" Who doesn't like cheesy yet still inventive cheery pop? Pop

Magnetic Fields "The Book Of Love" Ah the rare baritone lead monotones his way through the story of love in an older Fields song that is addictive. Rock

Nick Curran & The Lowlifes "Baby You Crazy" Hearkening back to the frutti powers of Little Richard comes this rocker penning a song about dem crazy bitches. Rock

Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man" Lotso hype surrounding this indie outfit who killed at SXSW becoming the next Avett Brothers. A haunting song about mistakes made and keeping your courage. Folk

Cosmo Jarvis "Mel's Song" Damn this is an amusing little ditty about what else, a girl named Mel. Even funnier when sung by a young Englishman. "You're just some pissed prick trying to get some of me and that makes me sick. Fuck off home." Rock

The Briggs "Mad Men" "Come all you mad men join in the sound til they put us underground." A marching bar anthem from a punk band that keeps getting better and better. Punk

Strung Out "Analog" I promised more from the punk veterans still vying for the success that is owed them, and here ya go. Musically one of the tightest bands in the scene and still thought provoking lyrics as always. Punk

Crash Kings "Mountain Man" There always seems to be a band around (Silvertide etc.) with that Black Crowes style and the Kings are the current ones. I'm not knocking it, I like that southern style and somebody has got to do it with the Crowes putting out crap these days. Rock

Rise Against "Little Boxes" Betcha never heard a Rise Against song like this before. Taken from the "Weeds" TV show soundtrack shows a different side of the punk icons. Interesting at the very least and dare I say cute? Punk

Gogol Bordello "Pala Tute" "Trans-Continental Hustle" the gypsy's new album is finally here and to be honest I'm a little disappointed. Not as jaunty and fast as their other stuff but still fun and this song about a girl is a good starter. Rock

Freeway & Jake 1 "Throw Your Hands Up" That's a catchy title (& chorus) and iTunes has 7 or 8 tracks of the same name but I swear to you this is the only one you need. The song pumps you up and I love all the bands they refer to from back in the 90's. Can't wait to here more from the "Stimulus Pack." Hip Hop/Rap

Far From Finished "Heroes & Ghosts" Ah, a new to me punk band has that pseudo-Irish sound I so love. I wish the kids today would listen to something like this as opposed to the radio shit. Punk

Pulley "Ghost Inside My Skin" From the new EP comes a softer side of Pulley featuring heartbreak, sadness, you know, being "just friends," all that jazz. Punk

Kate Miller-Heidke "Caught In The Crowd" Ever feel bad about that friend you had in school that you either out grew or just picked on. Here's a good idea for an apology sung oh so sweetly. Sorry James. Pop

Sad Brad Smith "Help Yourself" From the movie "Up In The Air" I found this track "I know you'll help us when you're feeling better and we realize that might not be for a long long time. But we're willing to wait on you, we believe in everything that you can do, if you would only lay down your mind." Nuff said. Pop
