In late 2007, or early 2008, the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland will become a reality. Billions of protons will collide in a 17 mile loop at the speed of light, smashing the subatomic particles together. Wow, and what the hell does that mean?
Well, it could prove the theory that the universe, from the smallest atoms, to the largest black holes, are all the same thing! This is all based upon the String Theory.
String Theory believes that every particle of energy in the universe has a tiny thread of invisible energy, that vibrates creating what the energy will become, whether it be an electron or photon. All of these different strings of energy connect the universe to itself. This would also state, through math I cannot comprehend and can barely understand the reading of, there are at least 10 dimensions "curled and tucked away" with each other.
Anywho, the Large Hadron Collider will mimic the conditions of the universe "a millionth of a millionth of a second after the big bang." "It is the greatest, most anticipated, and most expensive experiment in the history of mankind." Those, are strong words. This whole experiment tries to bring together the theories of quantum mechanics and general relativity.
So what? Well my confused friends, this is an enormous stride forward in figuring out he universe and how it works, as well as how it was created. I find it fascinating and quite confusing. So, pay attention to reports on the Large Hadron Collider and humanity's first glimpse of our true universe!!
