Its 2007, and new albums are beginning to roll in for the new year. We all know the mainstream music sucks, so we'll focus on 2 new CD's, that are not garnering the attention they deserve.
STREET DOGS "Fading American Dream"
Street Dogs co-founder and frontman, Mike McColgan has his Irish punk band back in action, with their 3rd, and best album to date. Former member of Dropkick Murphys, Mike left the band to go to war in Iraq (the 1st war), and then returned to become a firefighter. Now, he is devoting his full time to making Street Dogs a success.
The album kicks ass! Grittier and not as polished as comparison band Dropkick Murphys albums, the rough edges really lend themselves to the music, and makes the sound better. The tracks are Union strong, full of inspiration, and Irish pride, a lot of fun and drinking thrown in. You can learn something, or just party, the same tracks. I would just like to say, My Chemical Romance are ghey.
"Not Without A Purpose" the radio release, really sets the album off and kicks things into gear. A good 1st listen to get acquainted with the band.
"Tobe's Got A Drinking Problem" One of the catchiest songs on the album.
"Katie Bar The Door" Bad day, lost your job, time to drink and raise a glass to better times.
"Final Transmission" The ballad, about a letter sent from Iraq to family, from a dying soldier.
This is on a few of the 13, all solid tracks. Please check this album out.
SEVENDSUT "Alpha"
Though well known, since leaving the "major" record labels, Sevendust is back with their 6th studio album, on their own indie label. You know, people think Godsmack is good heavy music (*shakes head sadly*). Though Sevendust's work is always good, the new album seems to breathe new life into this amazing, long touring band. No more whining like they have started to do, ala Staind, in some of their last albums, this is straight ahead angry rock n roll! The music may be the best and most innovative the band has done to date, and the tracks stand out as individuals, or together to seem together the albums storyline.
"Deathstar" just kicks things off right. C'mon, bang your head little one.
"Clueless" my new entrance music (what the hell does that mean?).
"Alpha" The hardest Sevendust track to date, unrelenting! Gwen, that shit is bananas.
"Burn" A near 9 minute track, cycling through personal rage, loss, and something unlike anything the band has ever done before.
Really, these are 2 of the best new albums of 2007, and everyone tell a friend. Coming soon, new Machine Head, and The Nightwatchman, the solo project for Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine guitarist, Tom Morello. Plus, anything else I happen upon.
Fallout Boy, Daughtry, & Justin Timberlake are dominating the radio and charts. C'mon people, stop listening to the shit radio tells you to buy, and listen to something with fucking heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My humps hurt.
