Weezer Pacific Daydream: ImpOp Album Review

Wow, Weezer’s Pacific Daydream is a terrible album! ImpOp has followed Weezer ever since they dropped the “blue album” in 1994, and even supported them in concert. Rivers Cuomo has just mailed it in with the bands awful 11th studio album. Is there any point to this album or are they just writing about random things that come into their purview? This is the softest least interesting basic pop by numbers attempt the band has ever generated.

Remember when Cuomo penned this little ditty back in 2014?

“Back To the Shack”

Sorry guys, I didn’t realize that I needed you so much,
I thought I’d get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks,
I ended up with nobody and I started feeling dumb,
Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums,

Take me back, back to the shack,
Back to the start with the lightning strap,
Kick in the door, more hardcore,
Rockin’ out like it’s ’94,
Let’s turn up the radio,
Turn off those stupid singing shows,
I know where we need to go,
Back to the shack

Well guess what, Rivers forgot about what he wrote then and went completely garbage pop for Pacific Daydream.

The 1st track, “Mexican Fender” is a soft chime filled affair trying to be a summer ballad. It’s not. It’s just a lame Cuomo fantasy without soul or purpose.

"Feels Like Summer" is an ear piercing painful experience. It physically hurts to listen to.

ImpOp are devoted Beach Boys fans but if Weezer were trying to honor the boys on the song “Beach Boys,” they failed. The lyrics are garbage and it sounds more like a 21 Pilots tribute than anything.

The other 6 tracks on the album are just a bad or worse save for the lone decent track on the album, "Get Right."

In the end, Pacific Daydream is an overproduced nightmare without substance or rock n’ roll. We have no problem with bands experimenting, but this is the absolute worst album Weezer has ever done. Do not buy it, stream it, or ingest it in any way. Shame on you guys! It’s an errant money grab with near 50 year olds trying to gain entrance to the Taylor Swift world.
