2017 Imperious Opinion Music & Media Awards

The Imperious Opinion Music & Media Awards are back after a long and strange 2017.
In the world (movie trailer opening) that celebrates the corporate machines behind karaoke singers and actors pretending to be artists, where shills like Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Cardi B, Miley Cyrus, & Gucci Gang keep selling an image without substance and yet are considered musicians, ImpOp steps in to highlight and share honest, true art, lovingly crafted by earnest creators who put their true hearts and souls into their work to inspire and make are lives that much better.

Destroyers of the Soft Life

Song of the Year:
Dropkick Murphys “Paying My Way”

Nothing More
The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Rock Song of the Year:
CKY “Replaceable”

Nothing quite like an old fashioned snotty rock song with a bobbing riff. Horns up!

Punk Album of the Year:
Rancid Trouble Maker

Punk Song of the Year:
Anti-Flag “Racists”

Indie/Pop Album of the Year:
Portugal. The Man Woodstock

Okay, not exactly Hip Hop/Rap but by gawd the selections offered this year were just straight garbage and this was a great album. So, ya know, meh.

Tech N9ne “Erbody But Me”

Country Album of the Year:
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit
The Nashville Sound

Country Song of the Year:
Lukas Nelson “Set Me Down On A Cloud”

Cover Song of the Year:
Bleached “One Second”

Narrowly beating out the myriad of great covers by the underrated band Teenage Bottlerocket on Stealing the Covers, Bleached snuck in with the cover of the Tegan and Sara track from their tribute album, The Con X: Covers.

Comedy Song of the Year:
Ninja Sex Party “Why I Cry”

Technically this song came out in 2015 on the album Attitude City, but there weren’t a ton of great comedy albums out this year, and the NSP deserves credit for their catalogue of work.

Saddest Song of the Year:
Shoddy Blacktooth “I Don’t Cry (I Get Drunk I Get High)”

Comeback of the Year:
Goldfinger

John Feldmann returned to work after a nine year hiatus teaming up with Mike Herrera (MxPx), Travis Barker (Blink-182), and Phillip Sneed (Greek Fire). What resulted was the classic Goldfinger sound with a new lineup. Feldmann is still the heart and soul of the group and even after many years of anticipation, The Knife delivered!
