The Best In The Hip Hop/Rap Game Today

When Hip Hop/Rap genre is only selling the shitty acts of Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, Usher, T.I., T-Pain, 50 Cent, Lil' Young G Homie, and Thug Shooterface to the public, it ruins the brand. Young kids are listening to this crap and if they like it, they are obviously simple morons and believe music should only speak of hoes, pimpin', money, fucking, idiotic bejeweled teeth, and jewelry that is now so cutely referred to as bling. I mean how many songs can you make about the desires of a 12 year old male before it begins to be played out? If today's youth hate it there is no alternative to what MTV, BET, Fuse, and the like are selling you. Good music just doesn't get played on those once video channels proving their continues uselessness and showcasing people with zero talent but a gifted producer who can cover their awful lyrics and voices with Auto-Tune and gyrating asses while confusing you with bright colors.

Imperious Opinion has taken it upon ourselves to spotlight real talented musicians still cranking out good beats in the Hip Hop/Rap game today that you may have never heard from.

  • Atmosphere, Felt, Living Legends, or basically anything with Slug. The creator of the Rhymesayers label lays it down on all of his groups and projects with some of the most inventive song structure and rhymes today. The guy also talks about relationships while making fun of the rappers who have nothing to give but the same old gangsta rap/women are hoes music. Download "Trying To Find A Balance"
  • P.O.S A self-made creator of ingenious beats ignores mainstream rap and instead injects rock and punk into his music filled instruments he dominates. Download "Goodbye"
  • Kid Cudi Not exactly underground but still so damn creative he deserves a spot among the best in the game today. Reminds me of Gnarls Barkley only better. Download "Soundtrack 2 My Life"
  • Aesop Rock's lyrics are generally seen as complex and abstract. Critics state that the use of words can be so detailed that it becomes difficult to determine their originally intended meaning. The interpretation is highly subjective, because the messages conveyed are not always clearly defined. Download "Coffee"
  • Buck 65 A Canadian artist, MC and turntablist with an extensive background in abstract hip hop, while incorporating blues, country, rock, folk and avant garde influences. Download "1957"
  • Jedi Mind Tricks Vinnie Paz combines the Pharaoh's clique and brings aggressive mythology to his lyrics along with honesty when it comes to sensitive issues like self doubt, suicide, and misogyny. Download "Razorblade Salvation"
  • Jurassic 5 A very inventive group that brought dance beats along with positive lyrics who will hopefully get back together some day. They still have a nice catalog of good music to listen to in the meanwhile. Download "What's Golden"
  • MC Chris One of my absolute favorites, Chris brings a sly sense of humor combined with potty jokes and geek references to all that is nerdy and me. You cannot deny how funny or how talented this creative rapper is. Just don't call it nerdcore. Download "006"
  • The Mighty Underdogs This innovative group can scare you with science fiction monsters of battle it out in the old west. Either way they incorporate fun with brash lyrics and a touch of humor. Download "Gunfight"
  • Blakrok A combo effort from rock group the Black Keys and producer Damon Dash's crew of talent. More bluesy in nature, the tracks hearken back to an older time of Juke Joints while still pining over love and loss. Download "Coochie"
  • Immortal Technique Perhaps the most important rapper on this list comes with thoughts of revolution in the hardest way possible. The man pulls no punches and refuses big labels instead opting to be his own man and put out the tracks himself. The views expressed in his lyrics are largely a mixture of commentary on issues such as politics, poverty, religion, social class and racism. Download "The Point Of No Return"
