IMPERIOUS Music: 20 Tracks To Begin Spring

Fun. “At Least I’m Not As Sad As I Used To Be” I don't care how bad it is or how much it sucks, this song will cheer you up. Pop

April Smith & The Great Picture Show “Colors” Though you could not possibly need more cheer, we have a dedicated love song pining alone for you jaunty tune. Kazoo solo? Check. Clapping? Done. Amazing? Yes. Folk

Dawes “When My Time Comes” Ah, these country boys impress me with an all out vocal assault on the chorus and simple lyrics that feel so true. Country

Puscifer “The Humbling River” "Nature nurture heaven and home, Sum of all and by them driven, To conquer every mountain shown, But I've never crossed the river." James Maynard Keenan with the best track of his new solo album. Rock

Anti-Flag “This Is The End (For You My Friend)” 22 years in the books for this stalwart punk band that doesn't get the credit they deserve. Known for their outspoken views on American government, this is a good song to get you acquainted. Punk

BigWig “A War Inside” Rebellion and pretty much you want in a punk song. Punk

The Magnetic Fields “You Must Be Out Of Your Mind” The bass vocal on this song hooks you in as the lyrics say what we are really thinking but never say aloud. Needs more chimes. Pop

Strung Out “Calling” These punk veterans put in major work on the road and studio bringing a guitar sound that's inventive and intricate. The tempo changes work (most don't do it well) and this guitarist is very underrated. Punk

Old Crow Medicine Show “Wagon Wheel” These blue grass veterans have many great songs but this happy sing-along is the best they've done to date. Country

A.A. Bondy “When The Devil’s Loose” Always gotta have some sad songs like this one about knowing when to stay away from your beloved. Bondy is slowly building his rep as a careful song crafter of emotional tunes. Country

K’Naan “Wavin’ Flag” This is a great inspirational song for the youth of today. "When I get older, I will be stronger, they'll call me freedom, just like a waving flag." K'Naan is young and hasn't reached his potential yet on his sophomore album, but I'm expecting good positive songs like this one in the future. Hip Hop/Rap

Cherry Poppin Daddies “Blood Orange Sun” Yes the swing daddies are still around and this older song speaks of the death of a friend during youth that affects you your entire life. A memoriam song and kinda peppy as well. Rock

The Queers “Punk Rock Girls” Since this old school punk band has never been featured and should be, i deliver you the classic bubble gum punk track with its deep lyrics and fanciful elaborate music. Punk

Riverboat Gamblers “A Choppy Yet Sincere Apology" Punk continues to rule the day as these guys deliver an apology about one's anxiety problems. I can relate and the lead singer really captures the terrible guilt associated with depression. Punk

Cold War Kids "Audience" Don't know a ton about these kids but its a unique sound and some interesting lyrics about playing to no one in life and music. Rock

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club “Beat The Devil’s Tattoo” BRMC comes stomping in with their new album and lead track of the same name. Perfect percussion and sly lyrics like "everyone is king when there is no one left to pawn." We crescendo and they take us to a call and answer ending that is badass. Rock

Bouncing Soul’s “The Mental Bits” 20 years strong and just getting better. Their popularity may have wained a little bit, but the Soul's are back with possibly their best album to date ("Ghosts On The Boardwalk"). This is my favorite track combining humor, harmonica, and some dude yelling in the background. Punk

Slash & M. Shadows “Nothing To Say” Slash's kinda solo album with a bunch of guests from famous bands that don't have Axel Rose. The album isn't all that impressive but teaming with the lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold yielded the best results. Rock

P.M. Dawn "No Woman No Cry" Finally, P.M. Dawn is back after a long hiatus that saw leader Prince B recover from a stroke that paralyzed the left side of his body. The nocturnal's voice is just as beautiful as ever covering this classic song and making it better than the original! The new album P.M. Dawn "Greatest Hits Live" is out now with a few new tracks and a new member. Hip Hop/Rap

Doc.G "Peace With You" Speaking of the newest member of P.M. Dawn, Doc G the 1st cousin of said band joined up and has solo work as well. This is a beautifully crafted apology and FU to a stubborn in-law preaching the values of reconciliation for the greater good. This is an addictive song and the simple piano brings it all together. Hip Hop/Rap
