2018 Imperious Opinion Music & Media Awards

The 2018 Imperious Opinion Music & Media Awards has returned to give you the greatest artists of the year who put their true hearts and souls into their work to make our lives better! These are artists, not corporations selling karaoke singers like Beyonce, talentless cunts like Drake, whores like Cardi B, or just horrible drivel like Ariana Grande.

Album of the Year:
A Perfect Circle Eat The Elephant

Billy Howerdel and Maynard James Keenan got the crew back together for their 1st album of new material in 14 years! They did not disappoint with classic Circle sounds like "The Doomed" while dropping catchy tunes like "So Long, & Thanks For All The Fish" and thinkers like "By & Down The River." An excellent album and more new music has been promised soon!

Song of the Year:
First Aid Kit “Fireworks”

Swedish duo First Aid Kit returned after being burned out for a few years and put out the most haunting and gorgeous song of the year! Not only were the vocals the most beautiful sound on the airwaves, but the content discussing the Klara's  breakup with her fiancĂ© was soul crushing yet hopeful as well. Amazing stuff and if you haven't heard the Soderberg sisters harmonizing, you have missed astonishing beauty.

Rock Album of the Year:
Clutch Book of Bad Decisions

There is not a better touring rock band in existence today! These are facts. Clutch also graced us with their 12th studio album and it did not disappoint. Check em out. Everything Clutch does is right.

Rock Song of the Year:
Alice In Chains “Maybe”

Punk Album of the Year:
The Interrupters Fight The Good Fight

Aimee Interrupter caught our attention first, but delving into the Interrupters newest effort, we found a lot of fun tracks and a sound harkening back to the 90's.

Punk Song of the Year:
The Rumjacks “Saints Preserve Us”

Indie/Pop Album of the Year:
The Decemberists “I’ll Be Your Girl”

Indie/Pop Song of the Year:
MuteMath “Hit Parade”

Heavy/Metal Album of the Year:
Machine Head Catharsis

Heavy/Metal Song of the Year:
Sevendust “God Bites His Tongue”

Hip Hop/Rap Album of the Year:
Four Fists 6666

Doomtree brothers P.O.S. & Astronautalis finally released a collaboration under the name of Four Fists. In a genre that is increasingly lazy, it was so refreshing to hear something different, powerful, and meaningful.

Hip Hop/Rap Song of the Year:
Tom Morello, Big Boi, Killer Mike
“Rabbit’s Revenge”

Country Album of the Year:
Tyler Childers Purgatory

Though the album Purgatory was released in '17, ImpOp didn't discover him until this year so it counts. Tyler Childers is continuing the efforts of Sturgill Simpson to take country music back to its roots. The Kentuckian is a introspective writer and a glimmer of hope in a world that celebrates flatlines like Jason Aldean.

Country Song of the Year:
Tyler Childers “Whitehouse Road”

Comedy Song of the Year:
Ninja Sex Party “Orgy For One”

Sad Song of the Year:
Supersuckers “Dead Inside”

Prettiest Voice:
Neko Case

Best Rockabilly Band & Album:
Reckless Ones Forgive & Forget

Best Song About How Love Sucks:
All That Remains “Fuck Love”

Comeback(s) of the Year:
Gin Blossoms/Blues Traveler

It is likely that new music from 90's stars Gin Blossoms and Blues Traveler went unnoticed and that is a shame. The Blossoms dropped Mixed Reality which continues their signature southeastern style and included the great song "Break."
John Popper and his gang celebrated 30 years in the game and put out Hurry Up & Hang Around which also had the fun track "When You Fall Down."
Two solid albums you may have passed over on but you should give a try.

ImpOp’s “Find” of the Year:
Goodbye Blue Monday

Misery-punk is right as the Goodbye Blue Monday crew discuss being bipolar, anxiety, pills, and living in hell. The Glasgow band snuck in very quietly with a couple of EP's, but they are destined for great things in the future.

Best Rock Song About How Rock Never Dies:
Beartooth “Rock Is Dead”

Best Song About How Nothing Is Ever Gonna Change So Just Get Over It Already:
Authority Zero “Ah Hell”

Movie of the Year:
Isle of Dogs

Comedy Movie of the Year:
Tag

Fantasy Movie of the Year:
Solo: A Star Wars Story

Yes, Solo wins goddamn it. This was a great movie corrupted by bad press before the film came out. Word of mouth was bad and that put the bad vibe in their heads, but watching the movie, it was great! Seeing Chewy meet Han, the perfect Lando Calrissian portrayal by Donald Glover, and the Millennium Falcon making the legendary Kessel Run, was all glorious. Fuck right off people who didn't like this movie. Stop hating just because the franchise is now with Disney. They're doing a great job and this movie was far better than expected and if the final scene didn't jack you up, you're watching the wrong genre of movie.

Sequel of the Year:
Deadpool 2

Worst Sequel of the Year:
Sicario: Day of the Soladado

You know what will ruin a sequel every single time? Add a child. Now add two and make them the focal point of the movie and you have ruined Sicario. The initial movie was so good and the studio went with the standard sequel formula of adding kids to ruin it. Oh, now Sicario is going to train the mean mugging boy to be a hit man? Everyone else can enjoy Sicario 3. ImpOp is out!

Worst Horror Movie:
Halloween

Garbage that did nothing to restore the franchise. Terribly acted, boring, and with a lame script. Call us when they bring back Freddy Kruger.

Worst Fantasy Movie:
Venom

TV Show of the Year:
Barry

Who knew Bill Hader was a great actor? The comedian can oscillate back and forth between emotions like a pro. A strong cast including Stephen Root, NoHo Hank, and the genius Henry Winkler fleshed out this surprise hit.

Comedy Show of the Year:
Rick & Morty Season 3

Comedian of the Year:
Joey “CoCo” Diaz

Comedy Album of the Year:
Tom Segura Disgraceful

Comic Book of the Year:
Action Comics #1,000

I mean, 1,000 issues of Superman, of any comic, is an amazing feat. DC celebrated in style with art & stories by Dan Jurgens, Brian Michael Bendis, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Tom King, Jerry Ordway, Marv Wolfman, Michael Cho, Dave Gibbons, and many more to mark this rarest of anniversaries.

Artist of the Year:
Conor Harrington
